Brazil’s philosopher of the forest – level 2

21-10-2024 15:00

This year, Brazil is facing a bad drought and wildfires, showing how climate change is affecting the world.

These events are also making people more aware of Indigenous activist Ailton Krenak. He wants people to rethink their connection with nature. Krenak is a writer and journalist and he is known as the philosopher of the forest. He fights for the rights of Indigenous people in Brazil.

Kraki’s family had to leave their land 50 years ago because of illegal logging. He warns that people are harming the environment. He says that while not everything happens as a result of climate change, people are making things worse. He also says that we need to remember history because, without it, we don’t understand who we are.

Difficult words: drought (long time with no rain), rethink (to think about something again), logging (cutting down trees).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Who is Ailton Krenak and what is his connection to the environmental issues in Brazil?
