Brisbane may lose tennis matches for 2032 Olympics – level 2

20-03-2025 07:00

Brisbane may lose the tennis matches for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games if it doesn’t improve its facilities.

Tennis Queensland needs 113 million dollars to upgrade the Queensland Tennis Centre. The plan includes building a new 3,000-seat arena and adding eight more courts. The current facilities are not big enough. If the government doesn’t give money, the tennis events could be moved to Melbourne. Tennis Queensland’s CEO, Cameron Pearson, says there are not enough courts or seating for the Games.

The government will announce its decision about the facilities by March 25. Some people in Melbourne say their city has better sports facilities and could host the tennis matches. Queensland’s government wants to make sure that the state will benefit from hosting the Games in the future.

Difficult words: facility (the building, equipment, or service needed for a particular activity), upgrade (to change something for something newer or better), announce (to tell people about something officially).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What upgrades will be made to the Queensland Tennis Centre, and how could the tennis events be affected if the necessary funding is not secured?
