California, Mexico and Trump – level 3
20-02-2019 07:00
Last week, California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, announced plans to withdraw all of the state’s National Guard troops from the border between Mexico and the USA.
The 360 troops will be redeployed to fight fires and gather information on drug cartels. The governor thinks that Trump’s ‘border emergency’ is not real and he and California will not be a part of that political theatre. Political theatre is when a leader says things to get people to listen to him.
The previous week, New Mexico’s governor made a similar decision – she withdrew most of her state’s National Guard members from the border.
Difficult words: announce (officially say something), withdraw (leave a place), redeployed (deploy/put troops/soldiers somewhere else).
