COP 27 – level 2

On November 6, 2022, leaders of 197 countries came to Egypt for COP 27, a United Nations climate conference.
The leaders discussed the difficult fight against global warming. Every country had its own problems and interests, and it was difficult to reach an agreement.
The most important countries at the conference were China, the United States, and the EU. All countries promised to reduce emissions and to become carbon neutral in the future. Sadly, political situations are slowing down the changes.
Brazil, South Africa, India and China are developing quickly, and their economies are growing. They asked the rich countries for financial help to fight global warming. They said that rich countries were responsible for today’s problems.
Difficult words: interest (someone’s focus on something), agreement (the situation when everyone has the same opinion), carbon neutral (the creation of less carbon dioxide than from the air).
