Cuba energy crisis – level 1

06-12-2024 07:00

Cuba has a power problem. Many people have no electricity.

By the evening, only a little electricity is working. But the country needs much more. The government is fixing power for hospitals and water first. Schools must close. In Havana, some houses get power back, but many people stay in the dark. Cuba’s power system is very old. A big power plant stops working. The country also has little fuel. This makes life hard, with little food, water, or medicine.

Some people are angry and protesting. The government asks businesses to use green energy and use less power.

Difficult words: power plant (a factory which makes electricity), fuel (material for making energy), green energy (energy from the sun, wind, and sea).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are some of the challenges Cuba is facing due to its power problem and how is it affecting the daily life of its citizens?
