David Attenborough is 100 years old – level 3
08-05-2026 07:00
On Friday, May 8, 2026, Sir David Attenborough celebrates his 100th birthday. To honor this special day, the BBC is showing new programs about his life and work.
One show, Making Life on Earth, tells the story of how his famous 1979 series was made. The crew traveled to 40 countries and filmed 600 species. It was a dangerous journey where they faced wars and threats, but it became one of the most successful wildlife shows ever. It also includes the famous moment when David met gorillas in Rwanda. Another new series called Secret Garden focuses on the wildlife in British backyards. David shows that even in small gardens, animals like otters and owls have exciting lives. The show explains that gardens in the UK cover a huge area, so people can help nature right at home.
Finally, there is a big 90-minute special from the Royal Albert Hall. It features famous guests, live music from his shows, and memories from his long career. This celebration shows how David inspired millions of people to love and protect our planet.
Difficult words: honor (to show great respect for someone because they are important or did something good), species (a specific group or type of animal or plant), otter (a small, brown animal with thick fur that lives near water and swims very well).
