Derek Chauvin Trial – level 1
02-04-2021 15:00
Derek Chauvin is a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, US. Chauvin and three other police officers arrest a black man in May 2020.
The man’s name is George Floyd. Chauvin puts his knee on Floyd’s neck. He does it for more than nine minutes. Floyd cannot breathe.
He dies in hospital one hour later. People in all the world protest. They protest against the racism and police violence.
Chauvin goes to court last week. Police charge him with murder. He does not plan the murder. He can go to prison for 40 years. The other three police officers will go to court in August.
Difficult words: racism (when people believe that the color of somebody’s skin is important, and they do not like somebody with a different skin color), violence (when somebody wants to hurt or kill somebody else), murder (when somebody kills somebody else).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
