Derek Chauvin Trial – level 2
02-04-2021 15:00
In May 2020, Derek Chauvin and three other Minneapolis, Minnesota police officers arrested George Floyd. Derek Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes, and later, Floyd died in hospital.
The trial with Derek Chauvin started last week and it will continue until the end of April. Millions of people will watch the trial because many people see it as a test of the US legal system. After Floyd’s death, thousands of people around the world protested against police brutality and racism because Floyd was black.
The trial with the three other police officers will take place in August. They face charges with helping and assisting a second-degree murder.
Difficult words: kneel (to fall to your knees or to put a knee on something), brutality (when somebody is very violent and he wants to hurt somebody), second-degree murder (when somebody kills somebody else but he does not plan to do it).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
