Drake and Kendrick Lamar may go to court – level 3

29-11-2024 15:00

Drake has intensified his feud with Kendrick Lamar, accusing major music companies of unfairly promoting Lamar’s diss track Not Like Us.

The song was released earlier this year, and it includes lyrics implying Drake is a sex offender, which escalated their long-standing rivalry. Both artists have exchanged numerous diss tracks recently, heightening tensions.

On Monday, Drake filed notices in Texas and New York warning of possible legal action against Universal Music Group, Spotify, and iHeartMedia. He claims they manipulated streaming services to make the track a viral hit. Drake accuses Universal of unethical practices, including using bots and pay-to-play schemes to promote the song. Universal denied that, while Spotify and iHeartMedia have not commented.

These court filings are not formal lawsuits; however, legal action may follow. The dispute underscores the competitive and often hostile nature of the music industry.

Difficult words: diss (disrespectful), imply (to suggest), rivalry (competition).
