Five journalists die in Mexico this year – level 1
17-02-2022 07:00
Heber López comes from Mexico. He is a journalist. He works in the city of Salina Cruz.
López writes about crime. He writes about problems in government. He gets letters in 2019. These letters say that somebody will kill him. López tells no one about the letters.
A white car stops in front of the man’s office last week. Two men get out of the car. They have a gun. They kill López. Some people think that the man’s son is in the office, too. Nothing happens to him. Police arrest the men. They have a gun.
Five journalists die in Mexico this year. Over 145 journalists die since 2000. Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries for journalists.
Difficult words: journalist (a person who writes for newspapers or news websites), crime (when someone does something very bad, and he breaks the rules of a country), arrest (to go with the police because you do something bad).
