Germany’s economy in trouble – level 1

21-02-2025 07:00

Germany has money problems. One reason is that gas costs too much. Russia does not sell gas to Germany anymore. Now factories must pay more for energy.

China is another problem. China does not buy things from Germany. The country makes the same things, and Germany sells less. Germany also does not fix trains, roads, and the internet quickly enough. Now, they are slow and broken. The government has no money to fix them quickly. Many companies need workers, but there are not enough people who can do the right job. Fewer students want to study science.

There are also too many rules. Companies must fill out many papers. This means that everything takes too long.

Difficult words: reason (why something happens), fix (repair), broken (damaged, not able to work).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How have high energy costs due to Russia’s decision to stop selling gas, reduced purchases by China, slow repairs to infrastructure, workforce shortages, and excessive paperwork contributed to the challenges faced by German companies?
