Google introduced its latest quantum chip which can solve problems in five minutes that would take supercomputers 10 septillion years.

Quantum computers are different from usual computers because they use qubits instead of bits. Qubits can be both 0 and 1 at the same time, which makes them much faster for certain tasks. Google’s chip includes over 100 qubits. It reduces error rates, which is a big step toward making larger quantum systems possible.

Quantum computers could help in areas like medicine, where they could speed up drug research by modeling molecules. But they could also break encryption methods, which keep digital information safe. To reduce this risk, scientists are working on new post-quantum encryption systems.
