Israeli Prime Minister Charged – level 3
27-11-2019 15:00
The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, faces charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.
However, in his speech, he criticized the charges, and he said that he will continue leading the country. In the first time in Israel’s history that a sitting prime minister has faced criminal charges. Netanyahu repeatedly said that he did nothing wrong and he wants further investigation.
Netanyahu is not required to resign, but he has only 30 days to block the charges by asking for parliamentary immunity. This process is very complicated because Israel’s authorities are not fully functioning right now.
Difficult words: bribery (an act of giving somebody money to make them do something), fraud (the crime of getting money by doing something bad to people), breach of trust (an act of failing to keep money or secret information), sitting (a leader who is waiting to end his job or is waiting to get elected again).
