Kenya’s online platforms for men – level 2
14-11-2024 07:00
In Kenya, an online group called the manosphere is gaining followers, mainly with voices like Eric Amonga, also known as Amerix.
Through #MasculinitySaturday, Amerix advises men on relationships and gender roles. He supports masculinity. He believes men are treated unfairly in modern relationships and should act in more traditional ways. Radio host Andrew Kibe also supports similar ideas despite a social media ban. These influencers talk about problems men face, like unemployment and social pressure, making men feel upset.
Some people worry that this content encourages bad behavior towards women, while others feel these influencers are providing helpful support. Meanwhile, other Kenyan groups are focusing on positive ways to help men and women adapt to social changes.
Difficult words: gain (to get), masculinity (qualities and roles typical of men), unemployment (not having a job), encourage (to make someone more likely to do something).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What concerns do some people have about the content shared by the manosphere group in Kenya, and what issues do they discuss that resonate with men?
