Meta to stop fact-checkers – level 1

14-01-2025 15:00

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, will stop using fact-checkers. Instead, people can comment on whether posts are true or false.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg says that fact-checkers are too biased. He says that fact-checkers have their political ideas. He wants people to speak freely on social media. This change may help Meta work better with President-elect Donald Trump. Trump likes the changes.

The new rules will only be in the US for now. Meta’s changes can make big differences in how social media works. Meta follows similar changes which Elon Musk makes on X.

Difficult words: fact checker (a person who checks if something is true), biased (when someone likes or dislikes someone or something based on personal idea), difference (when things are not the same).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the reason CEO Mark Zuckerberg gives for Meta's decision to stop using fact-checkers on Facebook and Instagram?
