Mexico – Ecuador relations – level 2
10-04-2024 07:00
Latin American countries, including Brazil, supported Mexico after an attack on its embassy in Ecuador.
The attack aimed to arrest Jorge Glas, Ecuador’s former vice president, who sought refuge in Mexico. Mexico interrupted relations with Ecuador, and they called the arrest wrong and against international rules. Even though Ecuador argued, that embassies are protected places.
Many Latin American governments criticized the arrest. Brazil said that it broke diplomatic rules. Mexico will ask international groups for help. US officials asked for talks to solve the problem and follow international rules.
Difficult words: embassy (the official office of people who represent their country in a foreign country), aim (to plan), refuge (protection).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
