Mexico: Football or missing people? – level 1

07-05-2026 07:00

The World Cup is in Mexico soon. The government is spending a lot of money on police and helicopters. They want the football fans to be safe.

But in Mexico, many people are missing. In one area, more than 16,000 are missing. Families of these people are very unhappy. The government should use the money to find their missing relatives, not just for a sports event. The police do not help enough. Families look for their loved ones themselves. They go to fields. They search the ground. One group finds bones very close to the airport.

The families feel that the police do not say how dangerous the country is. They want help to find their families. But the help does not come.

Difficult words: government (people who make rules and lead a country), missing (when no one knows where a person is), relative (a person who belongs to your family).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What actions do families of missing people take themselves to try to find their loved ones?
