Alexei Navalny is a leader of the opposition in Russia. It means that he speaks strongly against the government.

Navalny is in prison for some time. His lawyer visits him. He says that Navalny is in a prison called the Polar Wolf. This is a place far away from Moscow. It is north of the Arctic Circle.  It can be very cold there, about minus 28 degrees Celsius. The regime is very hard there. Some people worry about Navalny’s safety and health. The US wants him free. Some people say that Navalny is away because people in Russia will vote for a new president in March.

Navalny says that he does nothing wrong. He says that the situation in Russian prisons is very bad.

Difficult words: Arctic Circle (a line around the northern part of the world), regime (a system of doing things), safety (when someone is safe).
