Police hurt a big hacker network – level 1

26-02-2024 07:00

Police hurt a bad computer group called LockBit. It is a ransomware group. They steal information from computers. Then, they want money for the information.

14 countries work together. They find 34 computer places in Europe, Australia, and the US. Two people go to prison in Poland and Ukraine. Police stop more than 200 cryptocurrency accounts, too. LockBit hurt many people. They attack schools, government offices, and big companies. There are more than 1,700 attacks.

Police say that it is a big win against hackers. Experts say that it is the biggest stop to hackers ever.

Difficult words: steal (to take something what does not belong to you and keep it), cryptocurrency (digital money), hacker (a person who gets to other people’s computers and gets information from them).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are the consequences of LockBit's actions and what measures are being taken by authorities to combat cyber attacks?
