Rising sea levels – level 1

18-03-2025 07:00

NASA says that sea levels go up more than scientists hope. In 2024, they believe the water will rise 0.43 cm. But it rises 0.59 cm. This happens because the ocean gets very hot and ice melts.

2024 is also the hottest year ever. The warm ocean water needs more space. Also, ice from mountains and cold places melts into the sea.

Some countries want to stop this problem, but others are not helping. If the Earth gets hotter, the sea will rise more. This can be bad for people who live near the ocean. Scientists say that countries must work together to stop this from happening.

Difficult words: rise (to go up), melt (when snow or ice turns into water), space (the area around everything that exists).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What caused the sea level in 2024 to rise more than expected, and why might this be problematic for people living near the coast?
