Robots clean Sydney Harbor – level 2
27-02-2025 07:00
Sydney Harbour is one of the busiest waterways in Australia.
Many boats travel there every day, and this causes pollution. Ships use fuel, and shipping creates about 3% of the world’s carbon emissions. Sydney plans to use electric ferries in the future, but a local company already found a way to clean the water.
They made PBot, a robot that cleans slime from boats. This slime makes boats slower and causes them to use more fuel. Cleaning helps them move better and reduces pollution. The company also wants to stop using special boat paint that harms sea life.
They also built CBot, which removes sea urchins which damage the ocean. It takes pictures and makes 3D maps of the seabed to help scientists. These robots help the ocean and make boats work better.
Difficult words: waterway (a river or other way to travel by water), slime (a dirty, sticky layer), sea urchin (a sea creature with a hard shell and long sharp points).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How does PBot improve boat performance, and in what ways does CBot aid in protecting the ocean?
