Samsung boss may go to jail – level 2
21-11-2023 07:00
Samsung’s leader, Jay Y. Lee, insisted he didn’t do anything wrong during a 2015 merger. It was a business deal worth 8 billion dollars.
But prosecutors want a five-year jail term for the man. They claim that he broke the rules and he abused his position as the boss of the company. Lee argued that it was normal management and everything was transparent.
The defense argued that judges ignored some facts in the case, including the views of 106 minority shareholders. The trial started three years ago, and it will end on January 26.
Difficult words: abuse (to use in a wrong or unfair way), transparent (clear), minority shareholder (a person or organization that owns fewer shares than the main shareholder).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How has Lee's defense team argued that the views of 106 minority shareholders have been overlooked in the case?
