Shooting near President Trump – level 3

01-05-2026 07:00

Chaos broke out at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night when a man armed with several weapons tried to attack.

President Donald Trump, the First Lady, and Vice President JD Vance were quickly evacuated from the room by heavily armed Secret Service agents.

While guests and journalists hid under tables, security forces apprehended the suspect just outside the ballroom. One agent was shot but survived thanks to his bulletproof vest. The suspect has been identified as Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from California. Police found that he was carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives. He had been staying at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the event took place, which raised serious questions about how he was able to get so close to the President with so many weapons.

The incident has also caused worry for the British Royal Family. King Charles and Queen Camilla were scheduled to visit Washington on Monday, but officials are now reviewing the security plans to decide if the trip is safe. This is the third major security threat President Trump has faced in the last two years.

Difficult words: chaos (a situation where everything is crazy, noisy, and people are confused), apprehend (when the police catch someone and take them away), bulletproof (something that a bullet cannot go through).
