Sudan war and artists – level 1
06-11-2024 07:00
The war in Sudan lasts 18 months already. And it is hard for artists.
Many musicians and performers must stop working or leave their homes. In the capital city, music rooms and theaters are empty and damaged. A musician named Mohammed Omar says that his music room looks very different now. But some artists, like Husam Eldin Baballa, still play music outside. It makes people feel better. They say that their music can help others during the hard times.
It is also difficult for them to get music equipment because travel is not safe. It costs too much. Artists want help from the government. Without it, they cannot keep working.
Difficult words: performer (a person who does music, acting, or dancing), empty (with nothing or nobody inside), equipment (important things or tools to do something).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What challenges are musicians and performers facing in Sudan due to the ongoing war, according to the text?
