Tourism makes living in Barcelona too expensive

Barcelona has many tourists. Now homes cost too much. People cannot pay the rent.

The city wants to stop some tourist homes in 2028. Alicia and Nadia say that the rent is too high. Nadia loses her home. She now lives in a small box home with her two kids.

People who own homes rent to tourists. They get more money from tourists than from residents. It is a problem because poor people cannot find a home. The city is making some new homes. The price is okay here. Alicia lives in one of these homes.

Barcelona wants tourists to come. But the city wants to help people who live here. They want homes to be cheap again.

Difficult words: rent (money which you pay to live in a home), resident (a person who lives or has their home in a place), poor (when someone does not have much money).
