LA fires – level 2
14-01-2025 07:00
Wildfires in Los Angeles killed 10 people and forced 180,000 to leave their homes.
Many houses are burned, and some places look destroyed. Damage could cost 135 to 150 billion dollars. High winds made the fires worse, but they slowed down for now. Firefighters are using planes and helicopters to drop water, trying to stop the flames.
The police believe someone started one fire on purpose. They caught a person and are asking questions. Some people returned home, but they found only ashes. The fires burned rich and poor areas, and people were scared. Some believe the fires are worse because of climate change. The President promised help. More firefighters are coming to the city. But many fires are still not stopped yet.
Difficult words: destroyed (completely ruined, not possible to use), on purpose (not by accident), ashes (what remains after something burns).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What methods are firefighters using to combat the wildfires in Los Angeles, and what is the suspected cause of one of the fires?
