Looking after children in Gaza – level 3
10-01-2025 15:00
Amal Alabadla, a resident of Gaza, gave birth to her son Mohamed on October 7, 2023, amid the chaos of war. Her eldest son, Noah, was only 18 months old.
Since then, Amal has endured constant bombardments, food shortages, and multiple displacements while caring for her children. Her husband, who works in the West Bank, hasn’t been able to return home since before the conflict began. As a result, he has never met their newborn son. Amal described her struggles, including fleeing airstrikes and living in temporary shelters under harsh conditions. She recalled holding her sons tightly during bombings and trying to stay strong despite her inner pain.
Israel claims it is dismantling terrorist networks in Gaza and doesn’t target civilians. Meanwhile, Amal says her children’s smiles give her the strength to continue fighting for a better future for them.
Difficult words: endure (to suffer through), displacement (being forced to leave home), dismantle (to take apart).
