Norovirus in the US – level 2

03-01-2025 15:00

Norovirus is spreading quickly in the US. There were 91 cases in one week in December, much more than usual.

The virus makes people feel sick with vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Most people get better quickly, but small children and older people can get very sick if they lose too much water. To stop the virus, wash your hands with soap and water because sanitizers don’t work well. Clean places where you prepare food, and be careful when you are still sick because you can pass it on even a few days after symptoms stop.

Flu, COVID-19, and RSV are also spreading. Vaccines are the best way to stay safe. Masks and testing are also helpful, especially for people who could get very sick.

Difficult words: diarrhea (watery stool), sanitizer (special liquid or gel which cleans hands), symptom (a physical or mental change which disease causes).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are some of the symptoms of Norovirus and what precautions can be taken to prevent its spread?
