Pope Francis is back in the Vatican – level 3

25-03-2025 15:00

Pope Francis has returned to the Vatican after spending five weeks in hospital due to double pneumonia.

The 88-year-old pope faced a serious health crisis, with complications that made it the most difficult challenge of his 12-year papacy. Doctors say that even though the pope has left the hospital, he will need about two months of rest to fully recover. During this time, he must avoid large meetings and stressful situations.

Despite his health issues, Pope Francis made a public appearance on Sunday, smiling and waving at well-wishers, although he used a wheelchair and appeared frail. His face was swollen, and he had bandages on both arms. He thanked a woman who had visited him daily during his hospital stay. The pope’s doctors mentioned that it would take time for him to fully regain strength and voice.

Difficult words: pneumonia (a lung disease), frail (weak), regain (to get something back).

What specific instructions have been given for his recovery, and what visible signs of health concerns were observed when he greeted well-wishers?
