10-12-2024 15:00
Rebels take over the city of Damascus. Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad leave the city.
The rebels say that Damascus is now free. They start fighting in the north of Syria two weeks ago. They quickly move to the capital. Syria’s Prime Minister will help the people choose a new leader. The rebels free prisoners as they move into the city. Many soldiers run away or go to Iraq. There is little fighting.
We do not know where Assad is. The rebels must now decide who will lead the country. This is the end of 24 years of Assad’s rule.
Difficult words: rebel (a person who fights against the government), free (to let go), rule (control over an area or people).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
