The Dalí Museum in Florida – level 3

31-03-2025 07:00

The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, houses over 2,400 works by the Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí, including paintings, prints, and sculptures.

Dalí, known for his eccentric personality, once claimed he would never die. While he passed away in 1989, his influence lives on. The museum offers immersive experiences like Dalí Alive 360, which showcases his artistic evolution. Dalí’s work blends reality with surrealism, influenced by his classical training and fascination with Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis.

His famous melting clocks painting is in New York, but many other masterpieces are in Florida, thanks to collectors Elanor and Reynolds Morse, who spent decades acquiring his works. In 1982, they donated their collection, and St. Petersburg offered to house it. The museum, now a major cultural site, attracts over 300,000 visitors yearly. Dalí’s ability to challenge perception continues to inspire, and his surrealist vision remains relevant in today’s world.

Difficult words: eccentric (unusual and different), immersive (deeply engaging), acquire (to buy or get), perception (the way we see or understand something).
