People all over the world celebrate the new year.
In New York, people watch the ball drop. Boston and other cities have fireworks. Auckland is the first city to have fireworks at Sky Tower. In Sydney, people watch fireworks and music shows. Paris has fireworks, and London has a big light show on the Thames. In Rio, people party on the beach and watch concerts. Some places, like Gaza, are not happy because of war. In Spain, people eat 12 grapes at midnight for good luck.
Even with problems, people are happy to start the new year.
Difficult words: firework (colorful lights in the sky), party (to have a good time at a party or other event, usually with drinking and music), good luck (when good things happen).
