The youngest world chess champion – level 2
23-12-2024 15:00
Gukesh Dommaraju, an 18-year-old from India, is now the youngest world chess champion ever. He won the FIDE World Chess Championship by beating Ding Liren from China in Singapore.
Gukesh is the youngest champion in chess history, breaking a record by Garry Kasparov.
When he returned to Chennai, fans greeted him at the airport with flowers and cheers. Gukesh was very happy and said he was glad to bring the trophy back to India. Many students from his school held signs to show their support.
Gukesh became a grandmaster when he was just 12 years old. He is now the second Indian to win this title after Viswanathan Anand. Soon, he will meet the Prime Minister, who praised his great success.
Difficult words: cheer (a shout of joy), trophy (a prize for winning a competition), praise (to say that you admire someone for what they did).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Who did Gukesh Dommaraju defeat to win the FIDE World Chess Championship and become the youngest world chess champion ever?
