What dopamine does to our brain – level 2

26-03-2025 07:00

People often get hooked on their phones and devices even when they know it is bad for them.

This happens because of a chemical in our brain called dopamine. Dopamine makes us feel pleasure, motivation, and reward. When we scroll through social media, our brain releases dopamine, which makes us want to do it more. But if we keep doing this, our brain gets used to it and starts releasing less dopamine. This can cause problems like not being able to focus on other things.

The more we use our devices, the more we need new things to feel the same pleasure, which can lead to a feeling of stress. This makes it harder to enjoy real-life activities and may cause anxiety.

Difficult words: hooked (enjoying something so much that you are not able to stop), release (to let go), anxiety (a feeling of worry or nervousness).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How does the cycle of dopamine release change when scrolling through social media, and what effects can this have on our focus and enjoyment of daily activities?
